The North Kingstown Town Manager told the council Monday that Good Energy has contracted with an energy provider for 2026 as part of the town’s energy-aggregation program and is targeting a January rollout. The town will host workshops and outreach sessions, both virtual and in-person, to explain opt-out procedures and program benefits.
The manager also summarized beach finances for 2025, saying beach parking pass revenue increased slightly from 2024 and expenses were significantly reduced; as a result the beach’s operating deficit narrowed to $46,000 for the season. He said this is the smallest shortfall experienced to date and that the town will review beach revenues and expenditures in more detail during upcoming budget work.
The town also noted that Recreation Director Chelsea Dumas Gibbs and staff member Haley Wicker received a $2,000 gold-level award from the Rhode Island Interlocal Trust for wellness initiatives, and that the school department, police and fire participated in statewide Camp University events at the town beach.
The manager listed several upcoming community events, including a school-safety informational briefing Oct. 8 (6:30–7:30 p.m.), a Rhode Island Blood Center drive Oct. 7 (noon–7 p.m.; sign-up at ribc.org with code 0684), an Arbor Day tree planting Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at Cranston Playground (Wickford Elementary site) and a tree dedication Oct. 14 at the town beach in memory of Linda Sherman. He also said a forum on short-term rentals is scheduled Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers.
