North Kingstown seeks to expand decentralized wastewater grant area to enroll additional properties

The North Kingstown Town Manager told the council Monday the town received $450,000 in funding to support decentralized wastewater system upgrades and initially targeted 30 properties for grants of up to $15,000 per site. Because some property owners did not follow through with required draft designs or outreach, the town will seek a modification to expand the area and solicit for up to 10 additional properties to reach the original goal of 30 sites.
The manager said the targeted neighborhoods include Hamilton, Mount View, Poplar Point and Shore Acres and that the expanded solicitation will prioritize properties near coastal resource protection areas, consistent with the program’s purpose of improving coastal water quality and mitigating pollution from traditional septic systems.
If the council approves the requested modification, the town will solicit applications for the additional properties and continue outreach to residents. The manager said he would keep the council informed as the process proceeds.
