Town manager: RIDOT adjusted Route 4 signal timing; $20 million Post Road/West Main sidewalk project to be advertised for bids

The North Kingstown Town Manager reported updates Monday on several transportation matters: the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has adjusted signal timing on Route 4 intersections, nighttime work on a mini roundabout continues and a $20 million sidewalk project for West Main Street/Post Road is scheduled for bid advertisement this month with construction slated to begin in April and finish by 2027.
Ralph told the council he has been in contact with RIDOT about persistent traffic-signal issues on Route 4 and said RIDOT adjusted the timing at several intersections. RIDOT told the town it will monitor the changes and continue to optimize timing; the manager said preliminary resident feedback showed only small improvements so far.
Work on the mini roundabout is being conducted primarily at night; the manager said daytime work recently related to a water-department hydrant issue, not RIDOT activity. He cautioned residents that additional construction over the next two weeks may generate more noise than earlier work.
On the longer-term project, the manager reported a $20,000,000 sidewalk project for West Main Street and Post Road up to Camp Avenue. The project is funded in part with $8,000,000 in federal funds, the manager said. The town expects to advertise for bids this month, begin construction in April and complete work by 2027.
The manager said the project will provide sidewalks on both sides of West Main/Post Road and credited coordination with the Post Road Alliance and state partners.
