Laredo ISD to repair Martin High obstacle course; contractor to reinforce structure and replace nets, with work expected in weeks

Laredo ISD staff told trustees Monday they plan to repair and reinforce the obstacle course at Martin High School after a facilities inspection identified worn wood members and aging components.
Assistant Superintendent Angel Velasquez said the original scope includes replacing nets and worn elements; an instructional report recommended reinforcing primary wood connections with metal plates at main connection points. Velasquez said Sartucci Construction is the contractor on the project and that parts and materials were expected to be shipped from out of town. "...there were some recommendations, and, basically, it's just to kinda reinforce some of the, wood members with, metal plates, right, at the main connection point," Velasquez said. He told trustees the contractor estimated the work would take about two to three weeks once materials arrive.
Trustees asked about soft landing surfaces and whether practices or team training would be disrupted. Velasquez said replacement of nets and cushioning (chips or mulch) is part of the scope and that staff estimate the work could be completed by mid-November, though the timeline depends on materials arriving. "They told us that basically would would take between 2 and 3 weeks," Velasquez said.
No formal action was taken; trustees asked staff to coordinate schedules with school teams to minimize impacts to practice.
