Mayor’s office staff clarified that Collaborative Children Solutions — at the request of its event contractor, identified in the meeting as Mr. Smeraldo — requested removal of the Gus Macker tournament from its contract after the contractor reported financial losses. The mayor said the city attorney prepared the paperwork and the council approved the contractor’s request; the meeting record states the removal was at the contractor’s request, not a unilateral city action.
The mayor also announced the proposed city budget will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 8, with a public meeting scheduled for 3:30 p.m. the same day. Staff said the internal team has been finalizing the budget and that department presentations are scheduled across upcoming work sessions and voting sessions in October and November; by charter the budget must be passed by Dec. 1 if not adopted earlier.
City staff also said the 2024 audit will begin on Monday (the transcript notes this start will occur on a federal holiday), and staff indicated they will circulate backup books and department materials as they finalize the budget schedule.
