Athletics report: windscreens quote, concessions rotation, learn-to-swim program and elementary showcases

The director noted that the west side has lower pedestrian traffic and could be completed in a later phase.
Concessions policy and rotation: Staff explained that Shirley Field concessions operate on a campus-rotation model so fundraising opportunities are shared among campuses; when a campus hosts it keeps the receipts and reconciliation goes to the campus bookkeeper. For citywide events (district- or city-wide meets) the host for that year runs concessions on a rotating schedule.
Elementary showcases and youth programming: The athletics office described an elementary-showcase calendar across feeder patterns: elementary volleyball, 7-on-7 football, basketball, soccer and a districtwide track meet scheduled for April 24. The district's elementary showcases bring multiple feeder schools on campus so younger students can compete and view high-school facilities and teams.
Learn-to-swim program: Staff said the district's Red Cross-aligned learn-to-swim program is in its twelfth year; the program targets second graders with tiered instruction (beginner, intermediate, advanced), runs in two-week session blocks Monday'Thursday, and operates through Nov. 6 for the fall cycle. Staff reported the district has the largest outdoor pool in the city and that last year 18 special-population students (special education) participated; staff will provide an updated demographic report on participation this year.
Basketball preview and travel logistics: Coaches'schedules for the season were summarized (tournaments in Edinburg, McAllen, Pearsall or regional events). Staff noted long trips over Thanksgiving and other holiday tournaments will use district vans for longer distances and buses for nearer travel; trustees asked staff to confirm meal plans and travel logistics for students who are at events all day.
