Committee approves architect selection for central fire station assessment

The Bangor City Finance Committee on Oct. 6 recommended awarding an architectural assessment contract to Haley Ward for the Central Fire Station renovation project.
Staff said the Central Fire Station, built in 1978, requires a major renovation as part of a multi-year capital improvement program. The committee heard that $500,000 had been budgeted across FY25 and FY26 for assessment and renovation work. Three firms submitted proposals; Haley Ward submitted the low bid of $68,500 to perform the initial assessment and design services.
Committee members asked about project timing and whether the station would remain in use during renovation. Staff said the current action is only for the initial assessment; further design and construction timing will be determined after the assessment identifies priorities. A motion to recommend awarding the assessment to Haley Ward was moved and seconded and advanced without recorded objection.
The assessment is intended to define scope and sequencing for future renovation phases; subsequent design and construction work will return to the committee for further approvals and bidding.
