The Bangor City Finance Committee on Oct. 6 recommended awarding separate contracts for (1) replacement and conversion of a boiler at Building 253 and (2) replacement of a boiler feed tank at an airport building.
Staff said the Building 253 boiler stopped working and the facility, occupied by Enterprise and the airport GSE division, requires heat for the winter. Three vendors responded to the solicitation. The committee heard a recommendation to award the boiler replacement and the oil-to-natural-gas conversion to Sullivan and Merritt and to award the boiler feed tank replacement to CCB Construction, the low bidder for that piece.
Staff reported a small budget shortfall of approximately $161.07 (transcript fragment) that would be covered by reallocation of savings from the Dock 12 water infiltration project, which came in significantly under its $400,000 budget. Committee members asked whether one council order could both authorize the awards and the internal reallocation; staff said both actions could be combined into a single order or amended after award.
A motion to authorize the two contracts, with the budget amendment to address the shortfall, was moved and seconded and the committee advanced the recommendation without recorded objection.
Final contract awards and any formal budget reallocations will follow the city's procurement and council approval processes.
