The Huron City Commission authorized repairs to the Splash Central lazy river recirculation system on Oct. 12, approving up to $30,000 to complete the work this fall and directing that the cost come from second-penny reserves.
Commissioner Gregg (presenting) said a camera inspection found a cracked elbow that appears to be the primary source of prolonged infiltration that has caused sand to collect in the lazy river. Olsen Construction — a contractor that has performed previous work at Splash Central — will perform the repair.
The authorization covers a worst-case scenario in which crews must remove significant concrete and replace pipe; the $30,000 figure is a not-to-exceed estimate the city put in its motion. Commissioner Gregg said the goal is to complete repairs this fall so planned resurfacing next year will not be delayed.
Commissioners moved and seconded the motion and approved it by roll call vote.
Clarifying details: staff said the $30,000 number is an upper estimate; the actual cost may be significantly lower depending on how much concrete and pipe need replacement. The repair work was presented as an out-of-budget supplemental to be taken from second-penny reserves so the city can complete repairs before next year’s resurfacing work.
