The Person County Board of County Commissioners opened a public hearing Oct. 6 on Text Amendment TA‑0725, a proposed revision to the county’s solar energy systems ordinance, and voted to continue the matter to the first meeting in February 2026 at the request of the amendment proponents.
County Attorney T.C. Morphis Jr. said late last week he spoke with the attorney for the applicants, who asked that the board continue the hearing so the applicants could conduct additional community outreach. Morphis said the applicants “acknowledge it's [a] complicated ordinance, and they want to make sure folks understand what's being proposed,” and that the board could open the hearing and then continue it without taking testimony.
After the hearing was opened, a commissioner moved to continue the public hearing until the first meeting in February 2026. The board approved the motion by voice vote. Morphis also told the public that citizens who signed up to speak that evening would remain on the sign‑up list and could speak when the hearing is reconvened.
No substantive testimony or amendments to TA‑0725 were recorded at the Oct. 6 meeting. The board did not set a specific Feb. 2026 meeting date beyond “the first meeting in February 2026.”
