Athens council adopts FY2026 water and wastewater budgets with small surpluses

The Athens City Council on Sept. 30 approved the FY2026 water and wastewater department budgets, each showing modest operating surpluses, by unanimous roll-call vote.
Staff presented the water budget with total operating revenue reported as $10,305,718, operating expenses of $10,253,176 and a projected surplus of $52,541. The sewer budget was reported with total operating revenue of $10,095,830, operating expenses of $10,015,498 and a projected surplus of $80,003.32. Following the presentation, the council voted yes on the resolution: Seibert — yes; Wailes — yes; Mrs. Henry — yes; Harper — yes; Lucas — yes.
No further discussion or amendments were recorded on the water and sewer budgets during the meeting. The resolutions were adopted and staff were thanked for their work preparing the departmental budget summaries.
