Willows Planning Commission approves Taco Bell paint scheme with limited purple accent

Willows Planning Commission members approved a design-review request on Oct. 7 allowing the Taco Bell at 1301 West Wood Street to change its exterior to predominantly earth tones with a limited purple accent at the entrances.
Joe Bencourt, Community Development Services director for Willows City, told commissioners the application sought only permission for the purple accent; no changes to architecture, materials, site layout, signage or lighting were requested. “The new scheme emphasizes consistency with the vast majority of the surfaces being an earth tone color,” Bencourt said, listing gray, bronze and white as the primary palette and describing the purple as a “subtle entry trim, to highlight and provide brand identification.”
Commissioners discussed the appearance briefly; several said they liked the update. Commissioner Christina moved to approve the paint change, Commissioner Robin seconded, and the motion carried on an affirmative vote.
The commission’s action was limited to the color accent; Bencourt noted the agenda packet had mentioned a conditional use permit but clarified there is no CUP associated with this request and the item was a standard design review. The approval authorizes only the color change described to the commission; any alterations to the building’s materials, signage, lighting or layout would require separate review.
No public comments were made on the item. The commission did not attach conditions beyond the scope of the submitted design review.
