The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday issued proclamations recognizing September as National Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Month and declared Sept. 10, 2025, as World Suicide Prevention Day in Madera County.
Melissa Gomez of the Behavioral Health Services Department presented the Recovery Month proclamation and described the 2025 national theme, “Recovery is real and restoring every aspect of life.” Gomez said this was Madera County’s third annual recovery rally and invited the public to attend the county’s event on the courthouse steps on Saturday.
Adrian Gonzalez, program manager for Behavioral Health Services’ outreach and prevention team, presented the suicide prevention proclamation. Gonzalez said the month’s theme is “creating hope through action,” and described outreach work targeting middle and high school students through tabling events and school presentations. He asked the board to declare Sept. 10 as World Suicide Prevention Day to coincide with national awareness efforts.
Board members thanked staff and invited the public to the county‑sponsored events. The presentations were followed by photo opportunities with supervisors on the courthouse steps.
