Summary
TWC reported that the minimum weekly benefit will rise to $75 and the maximum to $605 for regular initial unemployment claims with effective dates on or after Oct. 5, 2025, based on Labor Market Information calculations.
Logan Kegg, unemployment insurance director at the Texas Workforce Commission, updated commissioners May 20 on changes to the weekly benefit amounts (WBA) for regular initial unemployment claims effective for claims with an effective date on or after Oct. 5, 2025.
Kegg said the Labor Market Information (LMI) department calculated the 2024 average weekly wage in Texas at $1,848.37, an increase of $59.57 (4.3%) from the prior year. Texas Labor Code section 207.002 sets minimum and maximum WBA amounts based on LMI’s average weekly wage calculation, subject to statutory caps on annual increases.
Because the calculated minimum exceeded the statutory $1 annual increase cap, the minimum WBA will increase by $1 to $75 per week. Because the calculated maximum exceeded the statutory $14 annual cap, the maximum WBA will increase by $14 to $605 per week. Kegg emphasized the change applies only to regular initial claims with effective dates on or after Oct. 5, 2025 and does not affect existing claims.
Kegg thanked the LMI team and concluded his update; commissioners had no questions on the record.
