Sheriff, school districts sign three‑year school resource deputy agreements totaling $174,491.19 each

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office presented and the board approved three separate memoranda of understanding to fund School Resource Deputy (SRD) positions for Chewanekah Unified School District, Golden Valley Unified School District and Yosemite Unified School District.
Assistant Sheriff Jason Clark said the SRD program provides prevention education, behavioral health referrals, crisis de‑escalation, and a campus presence that helps build relationships between deputies, students, parents and school staff. Clark asked the board to authorize agreements for fiscal years 2025–2028 and to authorize the sheriff to sign the individual agreements.
Each district’s annual agreement value was stated as $174,491.19 per year for the three‑year term. Clark said the SRD role supports prevention and referral to behavioral health services when students are identified as in need.
Supervisors praised the interagency collaboration. One supervisor called the agreements “true collaboration” and thanked county administrators and the sheriff’s department for codifying the program in formal agreements. The board approved the MOUs and authorized the sheriff to sign by roll call vote, 4–0.
