She said the outgoing resident member had decided to step down and that Brooks, whose father B. C. Brooks helped develop Halyard Park, was a natural choice to replace her.
Brooks gave her address for the record and described previous public-service appearances on behalf of the Elliot Clarke Foundation, which is erecting a statue honoring her father.
There were no objections from committee members during the public presentation of the nomination. The committee moved on to other agenda items after brief congratulatory remarks.
