Council approves appointments, parking ordinances, Transportation and financial items in series of routine votes

Planning commission items: The council approved resolutions recommending conditional use permits for an event facility and shared outdoor seating at 7487 Harwood Avenue (Draft and Vessel) and for an eating establishment at 6108 West Bluemound Road (Plantjoy LLC / Amber Lee Childs); both committee and council votes were unanimous.
Transportation items: The council adopted several parking and traffic changes recommended by the Transportation Affairs Committee, including new parking prohibitions on sections of North 80th Street, Hillcrest Drive, 70 Second Street and other locations, establishment of 15-minute parking on specified blocks, and changes to no-turn-on-red restrictions at select signalized intersections. The council also approved a resolution expressing support for Milwaukee’s Safe Roads, Save Lives Act (a traffic-safety camera pilot), noting staff said the resolution is a policy position to support Milwaukee’s legislative request. All Transportation items passed unanimously.
Financial and other items: The council approved a package of Financial Affairs matters by grouped votes: a contract with ARC Electric to install solar photovoltaic arrays at multiple fire stations and city buildings; final invoice payment for City Hall bathroom remodel; an agreement with Union Pacific for a diagnostic review of a crossing and transfer of $50,000 for engineering consulting; participation in the National Opioid Secondary Manufacturers Settlement; a 25-year extension for T-Mobile cellular equipment at a water tower; flood-related emergency purchases and fund transfers; and authorization to issue up to $26,635,000 in general obligation promissory notes (series 2025A). Most items passed unanimously; the solar arrays and other items were approved 7–0 in committee and carried on council.
Board of Public Works: The council approved City DOT traffic mitigation funding for signal enhancements and a change order to the sidewalk repair program; both passed unanimously.
Why it matters: These approvals move a mix of capital, safety, zoning and administrative matters forward — from installing solar arrays on public facilities and extending telecommunications leases to adopting local parking regulations and endorsing a state-level traffic camera pilot.
Items will proceed to implementation steps per department instructions; specific items requiring further public hearings or Plan Commission review will return to the council on scheduled dates.
