The Wauwatosa Common Council held two public hearings and closed them after no public testimony was offered.
Staff described the first hearing as a conditional use permit request for a Planet Fitness health club at 3203 North Mayfair Road, within the General Commercial and Mayfair Corridor Overlay zoning districts. The proposed facility would occupy about 21,200 square feet, include locker rooms and a spa area, and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The staff presentation said the item will appear before the Plan Commission on Oct. 13 and return to the council for possible approval on Oct. 28.
The second hearing concerned a conditional use permit request for Local Makerie at 2289 Ludington Avenue, currently licensed to serve alcohol during scheduled wine-and-art instruction sessions. The applicant seeks permission to operate a wine bar outside instructional hours Wednesday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with an interior wine bar and a front-facing outdoor patio. That item is also scheduled for the Oct. 13 Plan Commission meeting and return to council Oct. 28.
No members of the public spoke in favor or opposition during either hearing. The mayor closed both hearings after asking three times for public comment and will forward the items to the Plan Commission for recommendation.
Why it matters: Both proposals would alter how commercial properties on Mayfair Road and Ludington Avenue operate — one by adding a large, 24/7 fitness use and the other by expanding alcohol service hours at an existing arts venue. Both require Plan Commission recommendation and council approval before operating under the new conditions.
Next steps: Plan Commission review Oct. 13; council consideration Oct. 28.
