The Texas Workforce Commission voted May 20 to approve one grant award of $500,000 under the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Healthcare Initiative for Internationally Trained Professionals (ITPs), staff said.
James Gholson of the Workforce Development Division described the RFA’s purpose as creating scalable career-pathway models that help English-language learners with health-care–related degrees reenter Texas’s health workforce. He said the evaluation team reviewed 10 eligible applicants and selected one award for the total available $500,000.
Staff recommended approval of the single award; a motion to approve the grant was seconded and carried.
Gholson said grant activities are anticipated to begin in October 2025. The award is intended to build infrastructure and reemployment pathways so internationally trained health professionals can increase household earnings and workforce productivity.
Commissioners offered no substantive questions at the time of the vote.
