The Alamosa City Council approved the renewal of a liquor license for the business known as The 719, despite the business not yet being in operation.
Miss Martinez (licensing staff) told the council that state and local licensing rules allow the local authority to deny renewal if a retail premises has been inactive without good cause for at least a year or if a facility approved for a retail license has not been constructed or placed in operation within two years. She said The 719 submitted a renewal on Sept. 16 and that staff confirmed significant structural issues discovered during remodeling had delayed opening. "From working with the owners, staff does feel that the delays are justifiable, and the 719 has provided an estimated time of opening in June 2026," Miss Martinez said.
Councilor Hensley moved approval and said he supported the project and the owners’ continued work on renovations. The motion passed unanimously.
The license was originally approved after a needs-and-desires hearing in November 2023; this renewal was the two-year renewal required while the premises remains inactive. Council did not add conditions beyond standard renewal review.
