CAC reviews competing mission-and-vision drafts, asks members to vote and provide input

Lucia, CAC staff member, presented three candidate mission-and-vision statements assembled from existing documents and a recent member survey, and asked commissioners to indicate which statement best aligns with the commission’s goals.
Staff said the statements range from an original, shorter mission to expanded 2017–2018 language and a draft informed by the recent member survey. Lucia reported preliminary, anonymous survey ratings from three responses: the original statement had an average score of 2.0, the 2017–2018 language averaged 1.7, and the most recent draft averaged 2.3 on the commission’s internal scale.
The commission discussed how a clarified mission and vision would inform future decisions, including artwork selection criteria and public-art submissions. Commissioners said they want the mission to guide operations rather than serve only as branding.
Members agreed to review the drafts more deeply and to cast votes if they had not already done so; staff asked commissioners to send any questions and to indicate which topics they will take responsibility for within two weeks. Lucia offered to compile responses and return a recommended statement for adoption.
No formal vote was recorded at the meeting. The item will return to a future agenda after staff collects additional responses and refines the proposed language.
