Community events push preparedness: EmberStomp, Get Ready 94920 and local go-bag distribution

Council members and fire-district staff reviewed recent community outreach efforts to boost disaster preparedness, reporting increased public engagement at EmberStomp and plans to focus next year’s Get Ready 94920 event on evacuation and go‑bag preparedness.
Leah Curtis, preparedness and education coordinator for Southern Marin Fire, said EmberStomp drew strong attendance and that Southern Marin’s booth saw roughly double the participation compared with the prior year. She described demonstrations including drone use for larger-scale defensible-space work and said outreach included go-bag information and QR codes to sign up for Alert Marin. "We were able to draw some more folks in with activities around defensible space, go bags for residents... and our new wildfire action plan," Curtis said.
Council members said they would apply lessons from EmberStomp to the local Get Ready 94920 event scheduled for Oct. 18 at Belvedere Community Park. Belvedere Mayor Jane Cooper said the city will distribute 100 Belvedere-branded go bags at a separate local event on Oct. 10, funded by the Belvedere Community Foundation, and encouraged residents to attend both events.
Organizers said next year they plan to invite vendors who provide home-hardening and vegetation-management services so residents who want help can get vendor contacts at the event. The council also discussed distributing printed materials about local fire history and mitigation at future events.
