Churchill County approves $250 to support Nevada Community Alliance golf fundraiser

The Churchill County Board of Commissioners approved a $250 funding contribution to support the Nevada Community Alliance’s annual Trix and Tees Golf Tournament, a fundraiser the applicant said benefits veterans and seniors.

Allison, representing Nevada Community Alliance, asked the board for in‑kind support valued at $3,500 — specifically two memberships to the Fallon Golf Course and two $250 gift certificates for the Fallon Pro Shop. Allison said the total contribution was in‑kind (course access and merchandise) and stressed that the county would not be writing a $3,500 check for the request.

Commissioners and staff sought clarification about ownership and operation of the Fallon Golf Course. Staff and commissioners noted the county owns the facility but that it is operated by a nonprofit; as a result, memberships could require the county to pay the nonprofit operator. After that discussion, a commissioner moved to approve $250 in support; the motion was seconded and passed with recorded verbal ayes. The motion carried with no public comment on the item.

Allison said the tournament is a primary fundraiser that supports programs for veterans and seniors and that in‑kind contributions would spotlight the county’s golf course while benefitting those groups.
