Parks director reports Bay Beach closed for season; new train complete, grand opening planned for May

The Parks Director told the Green Bay Parks Committee on Oct. 1 that Bay Beach Amusement Park has closed for the season and staff are working to obtain parts to restore a few rides before winter storage.
The director said a new section of the park train is completed and was run for one weekend to work out operational issues, but a public dedication and regular service are planned for next May. "We will have a grand opening dedication ceremony when we open next May," the Parks Director said, adding staffing shortages late in the season limited weekend operations.
The director listed upcoming events and staffing notes: Ottertoberfest at the Wildlife Sanctuary is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 18, running in the afternoon and into the evening and featuring bands, food and family activities. The parks department has also begun work with a new crew of conservation corps members who started in the past one to two weeks.
A committee member recalled a prior fall fest at John Deere Park that experienced both snow and rain on the same day as an anecdote about variable fall weather. The committee moved to receive and place the director's report on file.
