Commissioners adopt proclamations for veterans (Operation Greenlight), Dare Arts Month and Indigenous/Native American Heritage observances

The Dare County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several proclamations recognizing veterans, the arts and Indigenous/Native American heritage.
The board adopted a proclamation to participate in Operation Greenlight 2025, designating Nov. 4–11, 2025 as Operation Greenlight week in Dare County and encouraging illumination of county buildings and private windows with green lights to honor the service of veterans. Patty (veterans services) presented the proclamation and noted more than 3,400 local veterans receive VA services in Dare County.
The board also proclaimed October 2025 as Dare Arts Month, marking the 50th anniversary of Dare Arts (the Dare County Arts Council) and commending ongoing cultural programming and an art gallery in the historic Dare County Courthouse.
Finally, the board approved two proclamations presented on behalf of the Roanoke-Hatteras Indians: one recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day (second Monday in October) and another designating November as National American Indian Heritage Month in Dare County. Commissioners voted unanimously on all proclamations and thanked the presenters.
Ending: The board directed staff to circulate proclamations to partner organizations and encouraged residents and businesses to participate in Operation Greenlight and local arts events.
