Clark Atlanta partnership expands NSF Robert Noyce scholarship in Clayton County

The Clayton County Board of Education highlighted an ongoing teacher pipeline program Thursday that the board said is expanding after federal approval.
Clark Atlanta University, in partnership with Clayton County Public Schools, Genesis Innovation Academy and the Atlanta Algebra Project/Young People’s Project, received a $2,680,000 Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program grant from the National Science Foundation in 2022 to boost the secondary mathematics teacher workforce. The district said the grant funds master’s degrees and Georgia teaching certificates for fellows and provides coaching and mentoring supports.
Board remarks said the program has served 16 fellows across three cohorts since its start. The National Science Foundation has approved adding a fourth cohort; the district said recruitment is underway for the 2026 cohort. Fellows receive a full scholarship for a master of arts in teaching at Clark Atlanta University and a Georgia teaching certificate, the district said.
The board thanked Clark Atlanta University and program partners for the partnership and said the expansion aims to place additional qualified mathematics teachers in Clayton County secondary schools over a five-year grant period.
