The Ojai City Council announced Vicky Quinlan’s poster “Purple Haze” as the city’s Ojai Day 2025 poster during a special meeting on Oct. 7, 2025.
Miss Rivera, a city staff member who presented the contest results, said the city received two submissions and that staff conducted a vote to choose the finalist. “We had 2 submissions and we did a staff vote and we voted for miss Vicky Quinlan's purple haze,” Rivera said.
The artist, Vicky Quinlan, accepted the recognition and described the visual inspiration behind the piece. “Well, mostly people talk about the pink moment. But there's also that right in between and when the sky goes out, it's beautiful purple. So that was what was taking in my mind,” Quinlan said, adding she appreciated the opportunity to participate in the city’s celebration.
Mayor Gilman and council members responded positively during the brief presentation, with council members offering short remarks of appreciation for the submission and the city’s Ojai Day programming. The council then moved on to procedural business and adjourned to a closed session.
The city did not record a formal council vote on the poster; Rivera described the choice as the result of an internal staff vote of two submissions. The city’s Ojai Day celebration and any public distribution or printing details for the poster were not specified during the meeting.
