Resident and Broad River Business Alliance member requests enforcement against illegal dumping on Broad River Road

Javar Juarez of 1120 Briargate Circle told Richland County Council on Oct. 7 that parts of Broad River Road and the Wide Water Shopping Plaza area have become dumping sites for mattresses, pallets and other debris.
Juarez described the county’s dumping ordinance and said he reported sites with photos on Sept. 26 to the county ombudsman, the sheriff's office and a councilmember. He identified two specific locations — 3055 Broad River Road and 3315 Broad River Road — and said one property was a former CVS store. "This is a prime location for us to come and dump all of our stuff," he said.
Juarez said the Broad River Business Alliance plans to use its budget to remove debris, estimating the cost at about $472 for a box truck and labor, but that the alliance does not yet have permission from private property owners to remove material.
