Maintenance manager outlines upcoming park projects across six wards

Steve Glimp, manager of parks and grounds maintenance, briefed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission on Oct. 7 about ongoing and planned maintenance projects across all six wards.
Highlights included installation of a new bronze dedication plaque at Betty Wilson (Ward 1), a planned pickleball conversion at Bob Baskin (Ward 1), and an ADA-compliant sidewalk installed near Veterans Memorial Community Center (Ward 2) as part of improvements at that site. Ward 3 projects included resealed pavers at the Healing Garden and an upcoming irrigation pump rebuild at Mayfair Park. In Ward 4, Glimp said work addressed erosion near the Durango Hills pickleball courts and listed the Police Memorial Playground as the next site for attention. Ward 5 projects include new outfield fencing at Lindsay Park and fencing improvements at Ethel Pearson Park. In Ward 6, a new bocce-ball border was installed at Gilcrease Brothers Park and an Eagle Scout project will remove roughly a quarter mile of barbed wire at Floyd Lamb Park.
Commissioners asked about additional signage at gatehouses to indicate free admission for veterans and disabled visitors at Floyd Lamb Park; Glimp said staff would coordinate with the manager who oversees the gatehouse to address the signage.
