"Thank you for the lovely sidewalk and crosswalk entrance that you guys are putting in at the Monterey Road entrance to CSAT High School," one commissioner said, noting the crossing improves student access. Commissioners then asked whether the traffic-calming "bumps" recently installed on Hillby would be used on other narrow neighborhood streets. Staff said they would check with public works.
Commissioners discussed constraints raised by the fire department: if a street is a primary fire route, physical speed bumps may be inappropriate. Options mentioned included rumble strips, digital speed‑display signs and planned roundabouts on Upper Broadway as part of a Complete Streets project. A commissioner noted that visible speed displays can encourage risky behavior and that camera enforcement raises separate policy questions.
No formal policy changes were adopted; commissioners asked staff to coordinate with public works and the fire department on where similar measures are feasible and whether additional school-area crosswalks should be prioritized.
