Committee presenters said the current budget submission shows planned spending about $1,200,000 higher than expected revenue, leaving a projected fund balance of roughly $530,000 and a remaining shortfall of about $670,000 that must be resolved to comply with state law that forbids budgeting beyond available fund balance.
County representatives said several options exist to close the gap: increase fees charged to contract cities (Syracuse, Clinton and Sunset were named), reduce staffing or other dispatch costs, or seek a temporary subsidy from the county general fund.
