The Benton County Board of Education on Sept. 2025 approved several items intended to support athletics, operations and student services, including a contract with Dynamics Physical Therapy to provide on‑call sports‑medicine coverage at high school events, budget transfers required by state and federal grants, and acceptance of a $547,004.70 construction bid to replace HVAC equipment at Broadwood School.
The board voted to accept an executive committee recommendation that the district enter an agreement with Dynamics Physical Therapy to provide sports‑medicine services for high school football, basketball and other athletics on an on‑call basis. Board members said the contract was sought after West Tennessee Health Care did not provide an athletic trainer this year. The district said Dynamics will provide a licensed physical therapist to respond to calls at home events; the agreement does not guarantee a full‑time trainer on campus.
Board staff described the cost of contracted sideline coverage as higher than volunteer arrangements. Officials referenced an estimated per‑event cost “between $250 and $300” and said the district had previously averaged about $300 a month when West Tennessee Health Care provided services last year; the district reported the expense is budgeted.
The board also approved a set of budget resolutions that move previously awarded grant and program funds between accounts so spending aligns with state and federal grant rules. District staff said the adjustments include transfers tied to a nurses grant, pre‑K funding, a workplace‑learning/JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) allocation and an $8,000 Title I reclassification; officials said no new money was added, only bookkeeping changes to reflect grant requirements.
On capital work, the board accepted the lone bid for the Broadwood School HVAC project from Todd Prince Construction in the amount of $547,004.70. District staff outlined a two‑phase plan intended to minimize classroom disruption: install mini‑split classroom units by the end of fall break, complete library and administrative HVAC over the winter, and address remaining zones (gym, cafeteria and the chiller) by spring break or Christmas depending on parts and scheduling. Staff said the district expects to surplus the old chiller and possibly recoup some costs from its sale.
Two vendor contracts for student systems were approved. The board accepted a contract with EduPoint (the district’s student information system) after the state notified the district it would no longer share the cost; the district described the contract as the continuation of a 13‑year relationship and stated the new local obligation amount in the packet. The board also approved a two‑year agreement with School Links (described at the meeting as replacing a prior tool) to better track students’ early post‑secondary opportunities and to improve state reporting that affects funding.
