Sierra Vista Lions Club schedules Project Linus workshop Oct. 11 and Relay for Life on Oct. 25

A volunteer coordinator for the Sierra Vista Lions Club said a Project Linus no-sew blanket morning will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Community Center to make fleece blankets for children in crisis.
The organizer said volunteers of all ages can tie knots or color quilt blocks that are later sewn into quilts; the blankets are distributed locally to police, emergency responders and social-service providers for children who must leave homes quickly.
The Lions Club also announced its Relay for Life participation on Oct. 25 at the city park from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event supports the American Cancer Society and emphasizes survivor recognition; Sheriff Mark Daniels was named as an upcoming event MC.
Organizers asked residents to register teams or donate through the Relay for Life website page for Sierra Vista and encouraged community groups, churches and individuals to attend the Project Linus workshop or Relay activities to support survivors and local children in crisis.
