Geary County HR posts revised policy manual, schedules training day and employee events

Crystal Malchos, Geary County human resources director, told the commission the county's revised personnel policy manual is posted on the county website and employees have been asked to confirm they have read it.
"I will bring to the commission for approval before amending that," Malchos said, adding that she will correct minor typographical or grammatical errors without returning to the commission if those changes do not alter policy.
Malchos and other staff also outlined upcoming employee-focused events. They described an employee training day scheduled for Friday with service awards planned to begin around 4:15 p.m., lunchtime provided by JC Bar and Grill, and the health department offering flu shots in the morning. Malchos said additional paperwork is required by the health department and staff will circulate forms in advance.
Tiffany Havener of human resources and Jackie Risinger, Register of Deeds, reported on a recent charity golf tournament that drew 28 teams. "We raised $500 just with that" from a dice-roll game, they said, and a marshmallow-throw contest generated about $230, with half allocated to donations and half to the contest winner. Staff described broad volunteer support; "we had several volunteers from Geary County that went out there and helped," one speaker said.
Other staff updates included distribution of county sweatshirts to employees ahead of training day and a United Way campaign kickoff at the senior center with a karaoke contest and a $250 first-place prize donated by Heidi Morgan. Malchos said organizers were still collecting door-prize donations and would send one more email to department heads with logistics.
