Bearcat Pull set for Oct. 26 as police raise funds for Special Olympics; charity ride set for Nov. 1

Sierra Vista Police organizers said the 19th annual Bearcat Pull will be held Oct. 26 with check-in at 8 a.m. and the event beginning at 9 a.m. The Bearcat is the department’s 17,500-pound SWAT vehicle; teams compete by pulling it 25 feet as fast as possible in men’s, women’s, co-ed and Ironman divisions, organizers said.
Lieutenant/organizer Trish Harmon told KWCD that teams have two chances to pull and that Special Olympics athletes also compete. The event typically raises between $10,000 and $15,000, Harmon said, and early registration was open through the Sunday prior to the broadcast; organizers said teams should email registration details to secure event shirts.
Sheriff Mark Daniels discussed related fundraising: the Cochise County Sheriff’s Charity Ride is scheduled for Nov. 1. Daniels said last year’s ride drew about 500 participants and that online registration details appear on the sheriff’s office Facebook page and via the office’s website (county portal referenced on air). Organizers said a Can-Am vehicle will be raffled; the program did not provide a verified retail value for the prize.
The sheriff’s office also announced a carne asada sale in Douglas to raise money for the charity ride; the sale was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and advertised $12 plates with music, raffles and live entertainment. Organizers asked residents to scan the event QR code or visit the sheriff’s office social media for registration and raffle information.
