Sierra Vista schedules National Night Out on Oct. 7 with displays, demonstrations and fundraising

Organizers from the Sierra Vista Police Department said National Night Out will take place Oct. 7 at Veterans Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Corporal Scott Borgstead described a lineup of demonstrations and family attractions on KWCD First Watch, including canine demonstrations, fire-department gear demonstrations, helicopters from multiple agencies and displays by Border Patrol. ‘‘It’s a great time to bring the kids out, meet law enforcement, first responders, and…see all the displays,’’ Borgstead said.
The event will include a haunted-house attraction run by the Fraternal Order of Police lodge and Star Wars Legion characters, organizers said. The sheriff’s helicopter will display new department logos and typically lands shortly before the event.
Food sales at the event will raise funds for Sierra Vista Police Officers Association’s Christmas with a Cop program and Cochise County’s Shop with a Cop program; hot dogs, chips and soda will be sold for $1 each and proceeds will be split between the two programs, Borgstead said.
Organizers encouraged families to attend for demonstrations, children’s activities and interaction with first responders. The event is intended to increase positive community-police contact and to raise modest funds for holiday assistance programs.
