Faith in Blue, Lori’s Place to host Oct. 10 open house during Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Sierra Vista Police Chief Chris Heizer and clergy leaders said Faith in Blue will hold an open house at Lori’s Place, the Cochise Family Advocacy Center, on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is timed for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and will include an open house, survivor speakers and representatives from faith-based organizations and law enforcement. “This year’s theme is ‘It takes a village to keep us safe,’” Bishop Tom Simpson said on the KWCD First Watch program.
Chief Heizer described Lori’s Place as a 24/7 resource for victims that provides forensic medical exams, forensic interviews and other services used in prosecutions. “Without this center we’d be taking victims up to Tucson for some of these services,” Heizer said. He said the facility is a “safe place” and that past Faith in Blue events have included donations from faith organizations.
The Oct. 10 event is an open house meant to introduce the public to services and to encourage community support and donations to the nonprofit center, Heizer said. Organizers said survivors will speak about the cycle of violence and the local partnerships—law enforcement, prosecution and advocates—needed to support victims.
Organizers gave the Lori’s Place street address as 214 East Tacoma Street, across from Leahy Roberts Park, and said the outdoor area will be used for the event. The program’s organizers described Lori’s Place as serving Southeast Arizona and said local law enforcement refers victims there for immediate forensic services.
The Faith in Blue open house is free and open to the public. Organizers asked interested community members to attend the Oct. 10 event to learn about services and volunteer or donate to Lori’s Place.
