Jail administrator reports record average daily population; CIP funds approved for improvements

The county jail’s administrator reported to commissioners Oct. 6 that the facility’s September average daily population (ADP) was approximately 131.5 — a sustained high — and that the facility remains under strain.

The administrator (presented in the transcript as the jail update speaker) said current on-site population was about 128 with only four inmates housed outside the county on the date of the meeting. The jail had 18 females housed on-site, which the administrator described as a higher-than-preferred level for that demographic. The administrator thanked the commission for approving capital improvement project (CIP) funds earlier in the year (staff said the CIP funding was approved ahead of schedule) and credited recent camera upgrades with helping staff locate and interdict contraband.

The administrator said a report will be provided to the law board on Oct. 20 with additional data and analysis and that staff will continue to provide monthly updates. No policy changes or formal actions were proposed during the Oct. 6 presentation.
