Riley County commissioners declare October National Community Planning Month

Riley County commissioners voted Oct. 6 to sign a proclamation designating October as National Community Planning Month, a recognition aligned with the American Planning Association’s national observance.

The proclamation, moved and seconded during the Oct. 6 commission meeting, cites planning’s role in responding to change and shaping housing, transportation and land-use choices. The document thanks local planners and planning commission members for their public service and designates “Community Planning Month” in Riley County in conjunction with the national observance.

The proclamation text presented to the commission spells out typical “whereas” language used in such recognitions, noting that planning provides opportunities for public participation and that professional planners help identify solutions to difficult community questions. The county specifically recognized its appointed planning commission members and local planners in the text.

Commissioners did not record an individual roll-call vote in the minutes included in the meeting transcript; the chair called for “all in favor” and the motion carried. County staff said they will file the formal proclamation language with meeting records.
