Resident urges city action on overgrown Serrano Park vegetation, cites fire risk

A Lake Forest resident on Oct. 7 told the council she lives across from Serrano Park and said a large portion of the park has not had vegetation maintenance in “way too long,” creating a heightened wildfire risk.
Eileen McGurvey described dead trees, beetle infestation and falling limbs near children's class locations and other public uses. “Please step up and let's do something,” McGurvey said, asking council members and staff to inspect and address the area.
Mayor Voigt and public works staff said the city is investigating property ownership and mapping to determine which portions are within city jurisdiction and which are private or county-owned. Voigt said Lake Forest staff had cleared the portion within the city boundary but that work stopped at the city limit; staff will continue researching ownership and next steps and provide updates.
Council directed the resident to meet with the public works director for further information, and the city said it would follow up once mapping and ownership research is complete.
