Punxsutawney Area SD board approves routine personnel, transportation, maintenance and club formation

The Punxsutawney Area School District Board of Directors approved a series of routine agenda items, including personnel actions, transportation and maintenance purchases, cafeteria staffing changes, program approvals and the formation of a new student club.
The board approved minutes from the September 9 meeting. Trustees moved to table the assistant wrestling coach item (agenda 1a) and approved related athletics personnel items (volunteer girls high‑school basketball coach, volunteer track and volunteer wrestling coach), a resignation, and disposal of pole‑vault mats. The board acknowledged student athletic achievements and recognized Evan Presley as the District 9 golf champion.
Transportation items — including drivers, monitors and bus stop approvals — were approved. The building and maintenance section, which included multiple purchase orders, an award of a bid for a used Chevy Cobalt, and proposals for emergency boiler repairs, was approved as presented.
Cafeteria items were approved, including increased hours for several positions and changes to the a la carte menu discussed at the previous meeting. Doctor Gaston’s Federal Programs and Curriculum report, with approval of AmeriCorps students listed under those items, passed on motion. Superintendent Dr. Kranbacher’s report items 1 through 5 were approved without discussion.
High‑school principal Doctor Smelko’s items, which included several discard actions and the creation of a Turning Point USA club and appointment of an advisor, were approved by the board. Susan presented the financial report items and the board approved occupational tax exonerations and purchase orders referenced in that report. The personnel report — consisting of items 1 through 12 and multiple memoranda of understanding — was approved.
Informational reports were provided by Jeff Tech; IU 6 did not submit a report. The board approved payment of bills, including playground invoices and an HVAC bill from HHS CR, and moved to adjourn at the close of the meeting.
No public comments were received during the meeting, and an executive session for personnel matters was held earlier in the evening, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., according to the board’s announcements.
