Beloit board approves 0.5 FTE academic interventionist at Converse; administration says Title I funds cover the role

The School District of Beloit Board of Education voted Oct. 7 to add a 0.5 FTE academic interventionist position at Converse Elementary for the 2025–26 school year.
Administration said the role addresses student needs identified through assessment data and supports multi‑level systems of support (MLSS) at the building level. A district official noted Converse has a growing English‑learner population and a larger student base compared with some buildings that currently have a full‑time interventionist.
Board member Carol Fox and other members asked whether enrollment declines elsewhere mean the district could reallocate existing positions before adding staff. Administration responded the position will be funded through Title I grant allocations and thus would not increase the district’s general‑fund payroll burden.
The motion to add the 0.5 FTE passed unanimously. District staff said they will reconcile Title I allocations and finalize staffing assignments.
