Onslow County DSS expands outreach: in‑library and community locations listed

Tricia Kendrick of the Onslow County Department of Social Services described the department’s outreach program and locations where residents can get in‑person help completing benefits applications.
Kendrick said outreach exists because not all residents can travel to the consolidated human services building; the program brings services to communities across the county. She said staff will help residents with food‑stamp (SNAP) applications, energy assistance, Medicaid, childcare assistance, emergency assistance, workforce and family services, and related paper applications.
Kendrick detailed the outreach schedule she staffs: every Wednesday at the Jacksonville Main Library (Doris Avenue) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; at Richlands Community Outreach during that center’s business hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Monday afternoons 2–6 p.m. at the Swansboro Library; and the temporary senior services location every third Tuesday of the month (with plans to expand in winter as energy programs increase).
She said no appointments are necessary for in‑person outreach; staff will complete applications with residents, can mail applications, or coordinate with agency caseworkers when needed. Kendrick advised residents they may also apply online through ePASS or contact the DSS agency for an application by mail.
