Taylor Kirkland, of Onslow County Parks and Recreation, summarized several community events and deadlines this October. She said the department’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12, at Onslow Pines Park and will run most of the day with an adult soccer tournament, music, food, crafters and resource tables; WIC and donation partners will attend.
Kirkland said youth basketball and cheerleading registrations close Oct. 19. Residents can register through the Parks and Recreation registration portal (RecDesk) or by calling the Parks and Recreation office at (910) 347‑5332.
The department’s large family event, Monster Bash, will be Oct. 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Onslow Pines Park. Kirkland said dozens of decorated trunks and food trucks are expected, with park attendants directing parking; the department plans to use the adjacent field for overflow parking and added a walkway last year to improve pedestrian access from the field to the event. She also noted a haunted trail for older children and teens.
