The Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees opened a special meeting Sept. 30, 2025, at 6:01 p.m. to continue discussion related to the superintendent search and candidate feedback and recessed into a closed session later that evening; the board announced no action was taken during the closed session and adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
Board staff and members discussed impressions from a candidate panel and community input about desired attributes for the next superintendent, emphasizing an academic focus, moral character, support for teachers and a preference by some for an in-district candidate. Miss Garcia, a district staff member, said no members of the public had signed up for the citizen participation portion of the meeting.
A panelist who spoke to the board said the panel was “very impressed” with the sessions and that “they thought the questions were great” and specifically mentioned being impressed “by Dr. Moses and Mr. Thompson.” Several speakers urged a superintendent who can be visible in the community and who will champion schools; one speaker emphasized that the district must start strengthening instruction in the primary grades so secondary programs can build on a stronger foundation. Another speaker said supporting teachers was as important as focusing on students in order to raise classroom quality.
One trustee or commenter noted the scale of the district as part of the selection challenge, asking how to get “28,000 students and employees to come on board and input in that direction,” and called for a candidate who can marshal broad engagement. Another speaker said they would prefer an in-house candidate and that the superintendent should have a doctoral degree and a record of honesty and accountability.
The board recessed into closed session “pursuant to 1 more of the following sections of the Texas building” (as recorded in the meeting transcript). The board later reconvened in open session and stated that no action was taken while in closed session before adjourning.
No motions, votes or appointments were recorded in the public portion of the meeting; the transcript shows the discussion focused on candidate qualities and impressions from the panel and community feedback, with no formal decision announced at the meeting.
