Each participant will receive an individual assessment of their needs and their length of stay is really dependent on their ability to make progress towards their goals,” said Resident 2 (public commenter).
Speakers said the shelter has staff and resources available to people who choose to engage with them. “All the resources at our our fingertips, and we have the help. So like I was saying, if you want it, it is here and it will work,” said Resident 3 (public commenter). Another commenter described the program as requiring participants to take steps toward stability: “If you really want this, if you really wanna get out of your situation and better yourself and not be out there, then this place works. But you have to you have you can't just come here and expect everybody to do everything for you and in the snap of a finger, you're gonna get it all,” Resident 3 said.
Several commenters noted practical benefits for surrounding areas. “We're actually trying to help people. The the cleaner an area is, the less likely the sheriffs are coming, the rangers are coming, PD's coming, you know,” said Resident 4 (public commenter).
A public commenter who described using the shelter said basic needs are met on site: “It's really a big step forward. ... They feed you 3 times a day, and the food's good, and the people are nice, you know, and they're willing to help with whatever you have going on,” said Resident 6 (public commenter).
