Board announces tree-pruner licensing seminar and volunteer invasive-removal event at North Park Woods

The Evansville City Tree Advisory Board announced several outreach and training events during its Sept. 4 meeting, including a licensing seminar for tree pruners and a volunteer invasive-removal event at North Park Woods.
The final tree-pruners licensing seminar for 2025 is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at the C.K. Newsom Center, the board said. Separately, volunteers will gather Nov. 1 at North Park Woods for a "weed wrangle" to remove invasive plants and trees; the board described the site as the area near the old Lloyd Pool and praised recent volunteer stewardship there.
Board members said education is a key part of improving long-term survival and acceptance of new plantings. Members discussed the need for outreach to neighborhood groups to address resistance to large shade trees in some areas and suggested workshops and symposiums to promote proper tree care and the benefits of native species.
The board encouraged volunteers to participate and urged staff to incorporate outreach and education into future planting campaigns and stewardship events.
