On Oct. 1 the Roseville City Council introduced for first reading an ordinance to amend Roseville Municipal Code section 2.6.0.04 so that the city’s campaign period for general municipal elections runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 of the election year, aligning local reporting dates with the Fair Political Practices Commission schedule.
City Clerk Carmen Avalos explained that existing Roseville dates varied among recent elections (for example, earlier cycles began in February for prior election years) and that the change would provide a consistent, date‑certain filing cycle for future general municipal elections. The clerk noted the amendment would not apply to special or recall elections. Council members asked no substantive questions from the dais and the ordinance was introduced for first reading by unanimous roll call.
The measure will standardize filing windows and is intended to provide clearer timing for candidates and the public; the ordinance will return for a second reading and final adoption at a later meeting.
