Stein, who has served on the Tewksbury Board of Education and has experience chairing contract negotiation committees and leading strategic planning work, addressed the board before the vote. “I bring experience listening carefully, weighing all sides, and making decisions that are rooted in what’s best for students and the community,” Stein said during her remarks.
Board members interviewed two candidates after public comment and a short executive session. The other finalist, Aurora (Rory) Rodriguez Pipleen, answered questions and received several public endorsements from residents who described her nonprofit leadership and longstanding work in Tewksbury.
The board conducted a roll-call vote on Stein’s appointment. The named roll-call responses recorded in the meeting transcript were: Mister Chapman (yes); Doctor Deeny (yes); Miss Gallo (no); Miss Hicks (yes); Miss Cotran (yes); Mister Lordy (no); Mister McIsaac (yes); Miss Reyes (no); Mister Stanton (yes); Miss Fiatto (yes); Miss Alina (no). The stated outcome was that the motion carried and Andrea Stein was appointed. The board president congratulated Stein and said Katie (board staff) would follow up with next steps and the swearing-in at the next regular meeting.
Before the vote the board said it would not entertain additional public questioning during the candidate interviews; public commenters earlier had praised both candidates’ experience and community ties.
The appointment fills the seat through the remainder of the current term, which expires Dec. 31, 2026. The board’s agenda and supplemental materials note the appointment follows the district’s public notice process and that the board will swear in the new member at a future meeting.
