Judy Armendariz, housing director for the Nogales Housing Authority, told the board on Oct. 1 that the authority repaid about $31,000 after HUD identified an overpayment on some Section 8 vouchers and that staff is awaiting formal confirmation from HUD that the matter is closed.
The repayment came after a demand letter issued in June that, Armendariz said, reflected Section 8 families having been budgeted at 110% rather than 100%. “We did pay back that money,” she said, and staff used a non‑federal Chase account containing tenant rent funds to make the payment.
